MedStart Enrichment Program is designed for middle-school students (6-8th grade) who are interested in science and medicine or who would benefit from a more interactive approach to learning. Each summer, we hold a one-week “mini-medical school” camp that is completely FREE to participants—MetroCards, lunch, t-shirts, BLS certification and trophies are all provided without any cost to students who are accepted to the program.
Last summer, MedStart ran at Mount Sinai Hospital with a total of 60 student participants. Through a series of hands-on, interactive activities program participants learned practical skills, such as how to take a pulse and measure blood pressure, and also gained a better understanding of the diseases that are common in their community, such as diabetes and hypertension.
This year, the MedStart Summer Enrichment Program will be held on August 22 – 26 2011 from 9 AM to 5 PM. We hope that you will join us in August to continue our quest for knowledge, health, and power in East Harlem.
